Bridge Egg Recipient Programme

Kiev, Ukraine

Superb results - 53% of participants have achieved a live birth

This is an accompanied and fully-supported programme led by Professor Martha Dirnfeld and supervised on-site by Professor David Bider. Key staff from Bridge and a specially-assembled international team provide the treatment services. Only mature eggs are provided.

The Bridge programme in Ukraine is run at Isida Hospital in Kiev by a specially-assembled team of leading embryologists and physicians in Assisted Reproduction. They arrive at this centre especially for the week our recipients have treatment.

Isida provides one of the largest egg donation programmes in Europe, performing around 1,200 procedures each year with very high success rates, and works exclusively with Bridge to treat patients from the UK.

Assessment and preparation of recipients is carried out at Bridge followed by travel to the overseas centre for treatment. Our patients are supported in Kiev by a member of the Bridge care team and a Bridge fertility specialist performs the embryo transfer. Mr Pip Reilly, the Vice Chair of EIA (European Infertility Association), travels to provide counselling support to our patients.

Both Bridge and the overseas centre are ISO 9001 accredited.

Mature Eggs are guaranteed

There are many other aspects of this programme which set it apart from other international programmes and one key difference is that every participant choosing the full programme is guaranteed 5-6 mature eggs.

The provision of mature eggs is fundamental to this treatment plan and is something which is rarely, if ever, guaranteed in other programmes. It ensures that all the eggs you are given can be fertilised (see illustration below).

Programmes which do not specify and guarantee mature eggs are likely to deliver fewer embryos.

Egg Cycle

This programme sets out to achieve the best possible results for a category of patients who typically experience below-average success rates. After three years of this programme, over 50% of our patients are happy parents – a truly impressive result.

Superb Results

Since the inception of this programme and until July 2010, 297 patients have been treated. Out of 270 recipients for whom we have results, 156 have given birth and another 24 recipients have ongoing pregnancies expected to go to term. So, over 53% of our patients have achieved parenthood as a result of this programme - a figure which will rise as further results come in. The age range of patients is 35-50 (patients above this age may be treated on a case-by-case basis) and a number are now returning to try for a sibling.

Highly-skilled Leadership

Martha DirnfeldThe programme is led by Professor Martha Dirnfeld, an internationally-renowned fertility expert who is Head of the IVF Unit at The Carmel Medical Centre and one of the pioneers of international egg donation. She previously worked full-time at Bridge for two years and works closely with the Bridge team. Professor Dirnfeld personally performs the embryo transfer and supervises our patients in Kiev. Professor David Bider, another internationally-recognised fertility expert, leads donor recruitment and the embryology laboratory for this programme at Isida.

Do you need a visa for Ukraine?

For most patients, visas will not be an issue, irrespective of the treatment location you choose.

However, it is increasingly the case that citizens of certain countries are finding visas increasingly difficult to obtain.

We can assist with visas and details are available from the Egg Donation Team. So, if you believe that you might encounter visa problems, contact us first as our advice is 'do not apply' if there is any possibility that you may be 'flagged' by the authorities.
